Our Mission
Our mission statement is clear - transforming religion into a relationship with Jesus Christ, one person at a time. If you want a religion, you are in the wrong place.
Rocky Mount Church is not your typical church: we strive to be a place where our relationship with Christ grows deeper.
Our passion is to help you become a bit more like Jesus everyday.
We promise not to be too "churchy". We want to provide a place where you and your family feel at home.
God is the Creator and Ruler of the Universe and eternally exists in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ is God in human flesh. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate his power over sin and death. He ascended into heaven and will come again to judge the living and the dead, and to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
We believe in the Holy Spirit who proceeds from and is One in being with the Father and the Son. The Spirit convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. The Spirit leads, convicts, comforts, and guides us into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The Spirit brings us into fellowship with the Church.
We believe that God inspired the composition and collection of the Old and New Testaments. It is the living Word of God that is timeless, eternal, and true.
Prevenient—God loves us and calls us into a relationship before we are ever aware of God’s work.
Justifying—The moment that we recognize our own sinfulness and need for redemption and accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
Sanctifying—Work of the Holy Spirit in our lives to help us learn, grow, overcome, and work towards a deeper and more meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ and the Church.
We have the choice to choose or reject God. Through the power of the Holy Spirit we have the ability to exercise our will for good.
We believe the Sacraments, ordained by Christ, are symbols and pledges of the Christian’s profession and of God’s love toward us. They are means of grace by which God works invisibly in us, quickening, strengthening, and confirming our faith in Him. Two Sacraments are ordained by Christ our Lord, namely Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried.
The third day he rose from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Amen.
...reaches back over 150 years, to 1852 when the church was founded at the same location it still occupies today. The original one-room log building housed the 37 charter members of Rocky Mount and within 20 years the congregation completed work on a second building. In 1928, the church opened the doors of “the little white church” after fire destroyed the sanctuary. The church continued to expand throughout the early part of the twentieth century, and new additions were built to accommodate the growth. In 1978, the church completed construction on the previous building. The church took on a new configuration in 2006 when the education wing and fellowship hall were built to serve more than 400 children who attend Rocky Mount Church.
To accommodate even more growth, a larger, new sanctuary was built on the same location as the previous one, along with new offices, Sunday School rooms, and a Youth and Children’s Ministry area. Rocky Mount Church held services at NASCAR Technical Institute for over two years and still continued to grow its membership.
We held our first service in our current beautiful sanctuary on Palm Sunday 2017. The congregation of Rocky Mount Church has grown and changed over the years. By the late 1990’s the church had grown to nearly 500 members and today, Rocky Mount Church opens its doors to over 1,000 people every week, and the congregation now includes over 800 church members who serve in their church, their community, and around the world.
As Rocky Mount Church continues to expand, its mission - Transforming religion into a relationship with Jesus Christ one person at a time - is always still our main priority.
We welcome you to become part of our vibrant, loving community and to help us write the next chapter in the proud history of Rocky Mount Church!
